Poem: The Message Man
The Message Man
Who is this message man
That is so sure he can
Who is this unknown guy
How will he satisfy?
What message does he send
That we should comprehend
What does he try to say
For us to read today?
He writes about the rich
And, yes he has a bitch
He says they have all power
From out their ivory tower
He says the under class
And, yes the middle mass
Now slowly sink into
A debt owed to the few
He says that we should know
What trouble that we sow
If we do not take note
Of those for whom we vote
He writes that we can change
This fix that seems so strange
If we will do the sums
And then vote out the bums
And next he writes a screed
He thinks we all should read
To show the proof of God
Cannot support the nod
As Pastor Broocks has said
That God is not now dead
And gives us “evidence”
He claims will all make sense.
The message man says no
As careful thought will show
No evidence is shown
The Pastor’s case is blown
The clockwork God from where?
That argument so bare
And Darwin stands so strong
As Pastor Broocks is wrong
The Pastor turns to scripture
He doesn’t get the picture
The universe is all
And man is very small
The message man is saying
If you resort to praying
That is your perfect right
As he would not lose sight
But do not be confused
By “evidence” he used
The Pastor’s proof it falls
When meeting logic’s walls
The message man writes rhymes
About life’s many times
The good and then the bad
The glad and too the sad
And as you read the message
And wend through ev’ry passage
You will make the call
Did he rise or fall?
