A recent Facebook post caught my attention, even though I am not on Facebook myself (but my wife is). It was written by a committed Trump supporter who made a heartfelt effort to defend him. His tone reminded me of the early days of Trump’s rise in 2016, or even the 2024 campaign. He praised Trump as a fresh voice in politics who “tells it like he sees it” and reminded readers of promises made years ago. What stood out was his genuine attempt to reach across the political divide and ease tensions between Democrats and Republicans.
This post is not about rehashing every criticism of Donald Trump. Instead, I want to highlight a few key points that should have settled these issues years ago.
In the first place, Donald Trump is the worst human being ever tohold the office. This should have mattered the first time around.
It has only beccome clearer now but even in 2016 it was clear that he is a misogynist whose bloated ego made him believe he could grab any woman's genitalia and she would accerpt it. He bragged about it.
Examination of his many failed business ventures and bankruptcies should have made it clear that his television role as the great negotiator was a blatant fantasy. He is, was and always has been incompetent in every business endeavor he ever entered into except for his incredible ability to convince banks and investors to lend him funds he clearly could not repay.
He conned businesses, banks and cities to name things after him and then, as he has always done, walked away from them, often leaving dozens to hundreds of people cleaninig up his messes. And always, always, he lied and felt nothing for the peole he harmed. His greed, narcissism, sociopathy and cruelty have been front and center at all times in his life.
Perhaps more important for a man sitting in the seat of the ccommander-in-chief af American military forces, the man is clearly and inarguably incompetent to handle any difficult task and he won't even try. He doesn't want intelligence briefings, He doesn't want to be troubled to actually perform the business of governing.
He has made it clear in this term that his principal interests are his own glorificatiion, the acquisition of funds from the rich in exchange for government favors, pardoning some of the worst people in our country, accepting a $300,000,000 airplane from a foreign ruler and starting a digital currency into which the rich have poured hundreds of millions. There is a word for this: it is called unconstitutional- if not outright illegal - which it may also be.
Then there is the current Iran war which is blatantly unconstitutional. It is clear the man had no idea that Iran was not Venezuela and that it sits athwart the Strait of Hormuz. Why he did it he has explained many times with a different basis every time. He does not realize the economic effect may send the world economy into a tailspin which will damage the US badly. He thinks the US can conduct its business independent of the world economy - which he stupidly shows when he says the US is not affected by the closure of the Strait because we have plent of oil.
But, for me, it is his casual cruelty toward other people that is the worst. His war has cost the lives of thousands of innocent Iranians, thousands of Lebanese , 13 American troops (so far) and injured hundreds of our troops. HE DOES'N'T CARE! Two innocent civilians in Minneapolis were shot down in cold blood by his personal brownshirts - ICE. He is using the Justice Department to intimidate and coerce his oponents. He is holding thousands of immigrants in facilities such as the Everglades Alcatraz without benefit of court hearings despite a Supreme Court order telling him he cannot do that.
Trump is destroying the world order set up after WWII to protect the free world from dictators and power hungry madmen. Why? It is clear when you see him posting a picture of himself as Jesus Christ. He is a power mad sociopath and an incompetent failure as a president all out in the open. There is much, much more to be said, all of it tragic for this country, but I rest on these facts for now.
