First Entry

Well, hello, world. Welcome to my third website. Maybe this one will stick. My name is Clifford L. Somers and this is the last time you will see it. I write under the name Cliff Somers. Everyone who knows me personally, whether friend or foe, calls me Cliff. I have been counseled by people who are experts that I need exposure in a website, among other things, in order to give my books proper publicity. I have also been advised that I should have a Facebook account. I am considering it although I have studiously avoided it for lo these many years there has been a Facebook. You might already detect that I am old and I am no friend of the electronic world. Or, maybe, it is no friend of mine. Nevertheless, here is my website.

This blog will be interactive in that anyone who wishes to do so may post a comment. I encourage comments. I was a trial lawyer and I love to argue, so feel free.

I have written three books which have been basically self-published. They are described in the website and there are pictures of them. Two are non-fiction books. One titled “How Stupid Are We?”, is about politics, economics and the current political situation in this country. In particular, it is about how we, the American voters, keep shooting ourselves in the foot by not noticing that the people we vote for turn out not to be our friends. We vote for people who turn on us and favor the rich and powerful at our expense. This has been going on for decades and the result has reached a terrifying crescendo today. How this happened is not a secret, but the facts are lied about constantly and this book sets out the truth from believable sources. It is common to say that all politicians lie and all of them do the same things. That may have been true at one time but it hasn’t been for recent decades. This book lays it all out and I will be commenting on these subjects in this blog as we go along and as our current federal administration directs us deeper and deeper into an outright dictatorship.

A second book is titled “Is He or Isn’t He? A Response to God’s Not Dead”. This book was written as a rebuttal to author, Rice Broocks, a Protestant minister who wrote “God’s Not Dead” with a sub-title “Evidence for God in An Age of Uncertainty”. I write as an admitted atheist. However, it was not my intention to try to convince any believer to abandon their belief, I simply set out to show that none of Broocks’ “evidence” will stand up to the rigors of that word. As a trial lawyer, I am sensitive to the use of the word evidence and Broocks’ (whom I refer to as the “pastor” or sometimes as the “parson”) has produced nothing that deserves that description.

The third book titled “Daydreams and Nightmares; Poesy for the 21st  Century” is a book of Poetry. It is message heavy and unfortunately it is out of print right now. I am going try to remedy that soon.

Speaking of messages, I find that all of my writing seems to turn out to be message heavy. That is why I refer to myself as the “Message Man” both in this website and in the poem which is on the site and which references the messages in the books.

I will add entries to this blog over time. I will respond to posts to the blog so long as they are substantive or at least interesting, but time is a factor. Cliff
